Basis of race is Poggibonsi, first economic and commercial center of the Province of Siena, a town that owes its success to its strategic geographical position within Tuscany.
Saturday we start crossing the Val d’Elsa until we reach Casole d’Elsa and Chiusdino in the Val di Merse, lush valley that will take us to Montemassi, a bastion on the magical Maremma plains.
Through Ribolla and Pian del Bichi we arrive in the center of Grosseto, then the CO at La Principina, where we have lunch. After that we run towards Montiano, Magliano in Toscana and Albinia, crossing the wild landscapes of Maremma, rich of extraordinary images.
The vision of Argentario coast, spectacular and fascinating with magnificent views of the Tyrrhenian Sea, will introduce us to the arrival in Porto Ercole, a beautiful fishing village that will welcome us right on the quay of the picturesque fishing port, where the CO will be held.
The road back will take us to Orbetello, a city projected in the homonymous lagoon and surrounded by the sea. We will run on the roads of the Natural Park Dell’Uccellina – Maremma, a vast territory of 10,000 hectares with spectacular natural beauty until we’ll reach Alberese and the Fattoria Granducale.
Going then the southern part of the Val d’Orcia we will reach Cinigiano and cross the town of Montalcino, home of the most famous wine in the world, Brunello. From here to Buonconvento with a stop for dinner and CO. A spectacular stretch of road inside the surreal landscape of the Crete Senesi will take us to Siena where we will cross the stunning piazza del Campo in her suggestive evening dawns. From here we will reach the Val d’Elsa, which is colored in exciting dusk tones.
The historic Roman road Cassia will be the path that will take us to Poggibonsi, not before passing within the walls of the Castle of Monteriggioni, also mentioned in the Divine Comedy. The first stage will end in Piazza Rosselli, Poggibonsi, in a summer night huge crowd.
Sunday will be the turn of the Chianti hills that we will reach passing through San Gimignano, town declared UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Certaldo, birthplace of the famous fourteenth-century poet Giovanni Boccaccio.
So we will arrive to San Casciano, the Race front door of the Chianti region. From here the landscapes become unique: vineyards and olive groves, ancient churches, noble stone villas and farmhouses, hills and valleys…a magical mix of rare harmony and beauty. After that we will enter Greve and Panzano in the Historic Chianti, in the territory of the ancient Chianti League formed by the towns of Radda, Gaiole and Castellina. Exciting will be the steps of Radda and Gaiole.
The Madonna a Brolio we will have a short refreshment stop with CO, going on then to San Felice and Bossi, extraordinarily beautiful villages in fairytale landscapes.
We reach Castellina in Chianti along the legendary Chiantigiana road and from here in the dive towards Poggibonsi where the Macchi Trophy will be waiting for us to end the festival.
