Economic and financial center has ancient origins as a Roman settlement of the soldiers of Catiline. Casole d’Elsa is a small town in the province of Siena. The village has been disputed since the early 1200s between Volterra and Siena, then was inevitably involved in the war between Guelphs and Ghibellines. After one year of Florentine domination, Casole was finally admitted to the dominions of Siena after the battle of Montaperti. The current conformation of this medieval village reveals its soul of disputed land, with relief in the walls and the Sienese fortress, now is the municipality office.

The league of Chianti

It was the market place of the League, the place of commerce and trade. A nice little town with a very active and open social group. Here, twenty years ago, was born Eroica, vintage cycling event which is famous in the world, that every year brings in Gaiole more than 6000 participants.
Among the municipalities of Chianti was the one who suffered the most of all of the industrialization: large companies related to the agricultural world have embarked on a process of transformation of the territory that have strongly influenced the social fabric.
